Shyambazar is a neighbourhood of North Kolkata, in Kolkata district in the Indian state of West Bengal. The area, under Shyampukur police station of Kolkata police has been, along with neighbouring Bagbazar, the citadel of the Bengali aristocracy, in a part of what was earlier known as Sutanuti.

Tram terminus has an important role to play both in strengthening traffic operation as well as in providing subsidiary services to the passengers. The major aspects of location and layout, needs for passenger amenities , better operational control, and the potential for managing the expenditure with the commercial revenue should be into considerable attention. It should be the objective of any Transport Corporation to enhance passenger satisfaction and improve the quality of traffic operation also recognizing the needs for developed Tram Terminus Cum station management, along with a motive to develop a Heritage Tram terminus.

In this case, the motive of development for this specific project was to highlight the cultural essence of north Kolkata and its connection to tramways. Also the terminus shall be a relaxation zone for daily commuters.
