Ar. Soumyajit Kar

Principal Architect

Soumyajit studied Architecture at the Jadavpur University, Kolkata, gaining his Bachelor degree in Architecture in 2011 and completed his Postgraduate studies in Urban Design from Jadavpur University in 2013.

 

Previously Soumyajit has worked as an Urban Designer/Architect in MNC.ONE Design Solutions. His key responsibilities are Architectural Design, co-coordinating with various consultants (national and international), work site and ensuring local statutory compliance, etc. He has worked with Kanvinde Rai Chowdhury in New Delhi in the year 2009 as a Trainee Architect and was involved with a number of prestigious Institutional and Residential projects. He was also associated with Jadavpur University (Kolkata) and School of Planning and Architecture (New Delhi) for their consultancy work.

 

Later, Kalpangan Consultants Pvt. Ltd. is a well-known interior design consultancy firm in the nationalized banking sector. Soumyajit has a rich experience of working as a Chief Architect and Branch Head of its Kolkata Branch for one year. This position had given him a hand on experience of running a consultancy firm from its daily need to bigger goal.

 

Presently, Soumyajit has started his own architectural and urban design consultancy firm “URBANA” in December, 2014 in Kolkata. He is the proprietor in the firm and his key responsibilities are mainly management and client coordination along with development programme of the firm with an objective of providing appropriate architectural solutions to his clients.

Specializations of Soumyajit includes Detailed Master planning and Infrastructure development in Transport Sector, Master planning and Architectural design of Commercial/ IT buildings, Group housing, Hotels and Institutional Buildings and Interiors along with project management.

His designs are more than just structures—they’re experiences waiting to be told. Soumyajit has dedicated his career to weaving together the language of built form, landscape and aesthetics into compelling architectural pieces. His dream is to design institutional spaces and low-cost housing projects that offer innovative solutions to societal challenges.

 

Inspired by architectural luminaries like AP Kanvinde and Charles Correa, Soumyajit’s work pays homage to their legacy while embracing the innovative spirit of contemporary architects like Diébédo Francis Kéré and Kashef Choudhury. He believes in the power of collaboration and stakeholder engagement to create meaningful architectural responses.

 

Soumyajit sees sustainability as the cornerstone of modern architecture, integrating green design elements seamlessly into his projects. He uses the power of technology to push the boundaries of design, using advanced tools to create structures that are as efficient as they are beautiful. His designs seamlessly integrate sustainable principles, ensuring that each project leaves a positive impact on its environment.
